Good Evening Fannie Lou Hamer Students and Families,
As you may be aware, the Department of Education (DOE) has a distraction free policy at its schools, and here at Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School, we use the Yondr pouch system to manage cell phones. If a student’s Yondr pouch is damaged, we will collect their phone and return it to students at the end of the school day. This policy is highlighted in the welcome back to school package we mail at the start of the school year.
In addition to the cell phone policy, iPads and personal laptops can lead to academic and social distractions. To maintain our focus on teaching and learning at all times, we ask that students leave tablets and laptops at home. If students bring these devices to school, we will collect them and notify families that they should not be brought to school. We provide school-issued laptops for students to complete their work, and we encourage students to utilize these devices for their assignments. If your child does not have a school issued laptop, please let their advisor know as soon as possible so we can assign one to them.
As you know if there is ever an emergency and you need to reach your child, you can always contact the school by calling 718-861-0521, and a member of the main office team will assist you. You can also always contact your child’s advisor.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at jeffp@flhfhs.org or call the school at 718-861-0521.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Best,
Jeff Palladino
