Fannie Lou hosted an Encore session of Big Picuture Learning's 2021 Big Bang. Students, staff, school leaders from across the city joined with Chancellor Porter to celebrate the work being done to engage students in learning this summer and beyond.

FLHFHS is proud to be part of the We the People -- Math Literacy for All Alliance. In partnership with the Algebra Project we are dedicated to the goal that our students should graduate from high school able to do college mathematics without remediation and pursue careers without their mathematics education being an obstacle.

Helen Keller International returned to Fannie Lou. Students had a free vision screening. Those in need were able to see an optometrist, select eyewear and will have a free pair of glasses sent to them later in the year. These glasses are replaceable if they break or are lost for up to one full year.

In 2018, a Fannie Lou Junior was concerned with the problem of food inequity in her community. For her senior project, she raised money for and established the FLHFHS Helping Hands Pantry. Our pantry is unique in that it is located in our school building and provides food and hygiene products for any student or family in need. During these difficult times, our pantry has been more necessary than ever. Fannie Lou Hamer was a food justice warrior and one of her goals was to eradicate food insecurity. We are selling these shirts to raise money to restock our pantry and to continue the vision of Mrs. Hamer and our students. 100% of the profits of these amazing shirts will go to the pantry.

Fannie Lou students collaborated with Beam Center artists this fall to build Brain Boxes and code websites that express their interests and curiosities. Students explored, uncovered, illuminated, mapped, finessed, and celebrated their research journeys over the course of the fall semester. Check out their work here.
